At the beginning of the 20-th century Kamianka united two famous families - the Raevskys’ and the Davydovs’, was one of the cultural centers of Kyiv province. Here, during the southern exile, Pushkin was twice: from November 1820 to March 1821 and in November 1822. In Kamianka, the poet immersed himself in a sincere, friendly and at the same time stormy atmosphere of meetings and communication with interesting people. He wrote the poems "Nereida", "Slowly thinning clouds and light fog", "I felt my desires" and finished the poem "Caucasian prisoner".
In the 1920s, Kamianka became one of the centers of the Dekabrysts’ movement, where Kamianka council of the Southern society operated, headed by V. Davydov and S. Volkonskyi. P. Pestel, S. Muraviov-Apostol, M. Bestuzhev-Ryumin and other Dekabrysts came to the town for meetings. The love story of Vasyl Davydov and Sashenka Potapova blossomed in Kamianka.
