In a short time, the museum staff collected a wonderful collection from ancient times to the beginning of the twentieth century. In 1939, the museum received the status of regional ethnographic. But, despite the successes, the fate of the director and several museum staff was tragic. In 1937, the NKVD authorities accused the museum authorities of anti-Soviet counter-revolutionary and terrorist activities. M. Filyansky was shot, two more museum staff were repressed. During World War II, the museum’s collection was almost completely lost. In 1944, together with the post-war economic recovery, the restoration of the museum began. In 1950 in the museum collection there were already more than 15 thousand items.

In 1977, the Zaporizhzhya Regional Museum of Local Lore received a new room - the former building of the Aleksandrovsky district council. The building was built in 1913-1915. on the project of Alexander architects headed by Jacob Delant. Today it is a monument of national importance!
