VINNYTSIA

Central City Park Arch

Description

  • According to family legends of the building’s designer Roman Markhel, he had work long months over the architect's design of the future Vinnytsia symbol before the idea started up. Finally, he was inspired to get this original image by a curved back of a toy cat.

The idea of architectural composition belongs to the building’s designer Roman Markhel, who is the author of a number of monuments and buildings in the city. Such an effective decision still makes an aesthetic pleasure.

The recent reconstruction of the square only emphasized a true beauty of the location: cascaded seats, pale pink sakuras, an illuminated fountain, and a breathtaking panoramic landscape - this is not just a wonderful photo area, but a place with a good rest environment. A swan family, brooding every year, has made its home on the lake next to the Arch.

The Vinnytsia Planetarium, located deep to the Central City Park, invites you to its performances, and the Miniature Park “Mini-Vinnytsia” offers to admire perfect copies of famous Vinnytsia buildings.

INTERESTING FACTS

  • According to family legends of the building’s designer Roman Markhel, he had work long months over the architect's design of the future Vinnytsia symbol before the idea started up. Finally, he was inspired to get this original image by a curved back of a toy cat. The Arch is resting on four bases as if the cat’s paws and the stela resemble the cat’s tail in the air.

  • There is an interesting inscription hidden from view at the top of the arch: "15.09.67 RSU-1 AGAINST ALL ODDS". According to creators of the Arch, in the course of construction, some of their colleagues did not believe that the arch could be cast without deforming the formwork. And yet, "against all odds", the calculations of architects and the skills of builders were flawless.

  • The architect’s family originates from Poland, though family members had been living in Ukraine for a long time. After the revolution, the Markhel went by train to their ancestral homeland but they had to terminate their trip. They got off the train at the railway station which, by coincidence, was Vinnytsia Railway Station. Since that time Vinnytsia became their home.
