“Metalist” club

Description

  • Built in 1924-1925 by architect D. Tissen for the workers of the Communard plant, it is a two-storey building. On the facade of the house from the central part are risolites, the entrance is decorated with columns and a balcony with an arch. During the period of its functioning, famous Ukrainian cultural and arts figures performed in the club premises, and in 1931-1941 a troupe of the Ukrainian theater M. Zankovetska worked.

The risolites are located on the facade in the central part and on either side of the central entrance of the two-storey building emphasizing the architectural significance of the house, just as a cultural home, and also create an additional effect of splendor.

The building is adorned with a portico, the ceiling of which rests on six columns between which is placed the entrance. Above the portico is an open balcony with three doors, two rectangular in the center and one in the center. Around the door is a glazed arch decorated with stucco depicting spikelets and a towel in the center, books and musical instruments on the sides.
On both sides of the risolite are the same arcade shapes, which rest on columns decorated with pilasters. The corners of the risolites and the windows are trimmed with columns. The windows around are decorated with sandracks.
The composition of the main facade is asymmetrical and corresponds to the internal layout of the house. In the upper part of the house, under the roof there is a cornice decorated with stucco, which completes the architectural decision of the house. The roof of the building is gable. At present, the building houses the Palace of Culture of the Zaporozhye Automobile Plant.

It was in Zaporizhzhya that large-scale productions were made: "The death of the squadron" (1933), "Plato Krechet" (1935), "In the steppes of Ukraine" (1940) and others.
The theater was evacuated with the outbreak of World War II. In the 1950's the club was renamed the House of Culture. Zhdanov, but with the beginning of perestroika, when the ideologized names were revised, the house of culture got its present name - the AvtoZAZ company.

  • On May 19, 1929, the club hosted: Ukrainian poet Vladimir Sosyura; poet, journalist and translator Andriy Paniv; writer Vladimir Kuzmich; the writer Sava Bozhko; humorist Vasily Chechviansky. A marble plaque is installed to the left of the entrance in memory of these dies.
