The monument to soldiers-internationalists was erected in 1997. In 2011, in connection with the conversion of the Afghan warriors, the Square of Pioneers was renamed the Square of Warriors-Internationalists.
At the same time, a global reconstruction of the park took place: emergency trees were cut down, the crowns of old trees were updated, and new ones were planted. The reconstruction also affected the memorial complex located on the territory of the park: in addition to the existing stella, which was also updated, 15 plates with the names of internationalist warriors were installed.
