St. Pokrovsky Bishops' Cathedral is a monument of religious architecture and urban planning of local importance. Architect Dmitry Romanov managed to find photographs of the cathedral in the Synodal Archive of St. Petersburg, which stood on the site of the rebuilding of the church until the beginning of the October 1917 coup. The designers studied in detail the architectural features of the church on Cathedral Square and managed to develop blueprints for the construction of a new church.

Now it is a temple building that adorns the central square of the old city, and serves as the Bishops' Council of the Zaporizhia Diocese. Contains a rare iconostasis in the style of Ukrainian Baroque.

In 1886, the Holy Protection Cathedral was founded on the site of the former Intercession Church, which was destroyed in the 30s of the XX century. In 1993, it was decided to recreate Holy Protection Cathedral in its original form. The construction of the temple lasted 14 years.

  • For more than 200 years he was in the church of the Archangel Michael in one of the rural parishes of Podolia.
  • It is not excluded that even Cossacks prayed in front of the old iconostasis to strengthen the Orthodox faith.
  • In 1938, when the church was finally destroyed, the iconostasis got into a private collection and was preparing to export it abroad. But later he was transferred to the Zaporizhia Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
