HISTORY

The former Kovalenko Hotel or Guest House was built in the early twentieth century. The architect of the project was Jacob Pauchenko, and the owner of the building or the contractor was probably a local merchant, Sergeyev.

Some architectural heritage researchers claim that the owner of the lounge was a merchant Kovalenko.

Architects of that time relied on examples of Byzantine and ancient Russian architecture of the XII-XV centuries. This is how the "non-Russian style" appeared and became established in the Russian Empire. This style used only a citation of the exterior forms and decor of the architecture of the Middle Ages and remained within the compositional principles of classicism, so it paved the way for eclecticism.
Now the Security Service of Ukraine is located here in the Kirovograd region.
