During the Second World War, the temple was significantly destroyed and only in 1954, the restoration work begins. At the same time, the Soviet authorities used the premises of the church for the fashion house and the Museum of Fine Arts. Therefore, the bell tower, wall paintings and the iconostasis were destroyed. Also, during the reign of the Bolsheviks, the church intended to demolish and build in its place the hotel "Moscow".
After the fall of the USSR, the church returned to the parish of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. After that begins its restoration, the paintings and the iconostasis were restored. The new murals were made by the artist Bogdan Tkachik.
