After the release of the novel in 1928 in the art and literary magazine "Thirty Days", his heroes became very popular among readers. The name of one of them is associated with the writing of a letter at one of the railway stations - in Kharkov.
According to the plot of the novel, Father Fyodor, who learned from the confession about the existence of jewelry, advances in search of them and travels across the country in search of chairs. One of the stops is Kharkov, where on the platform Father Fyodor writes a letter about his stay in the “noisy city of Kharkov” to his wife Katerina Alexandrovna.
The idea of erecting the monument belongs to Konstantin Kevorkyan, who is the director of the “First Capital” video channel. On August 3, 2001, the grand opening of the sculpture took place, during which the Kharkovites were shown a small theatrical performance based on the novel. The motto of the discovery was the phrase: “We hit the monument with pessimism and lack of culture!”. Father Fedor holds a teapot in his left hand and a letter in his right. This form of sculpture is caused by a reminder of the episode when the character was late for the train, having run out to collect boiling water at the station. The prototype for the creation of the monument was the image of Father Fyodor, captured in the film adaptation of “12 Chairs,” directed by Leonid Gaidai. In this film, the character from the novel was played by actor Mikhail Pugovkin, whose facial features are guessed in the image of the monument.
