The building of the Land Bank according to the project of AN Beketova was built in 1897 in the Neo-Renaissance style, has a large scale of divisions and a wealth of sculptural finishes. The building visually fixes the beginning of the square from the side of Sumskaya Street. The decorative forms of the building, its representativeness and strict symmetry corresponded to the tastes of the commercial elite of that era. The impressive two-storey building with large arched windows is topped by a massive figured parapet. The high rusted plinth, the complicated rhythm of the semi-columns of the second floor are complemented by a wealth of stucco details. Faceted rusts, arched openings, semi-columns of the Ionic order, cartouches, female statues, bas-reliefs, mascarons, a wide frieze decorated with floral ornaments are used in the decoration of the facades. The interiors of the operating room, which was illuminated with natural light, and the shareholders' meeting room, which was located on the second floor, were made in the same style. By the 350th anniversary of Kharkiv, two sculptural images of lions were installed in front of the entrance to the building.

In connection with the economic development of the city of Kharkov in the late XIX - early XX, various financial institutions were actively built here. One of them is the Land Bank, the building of which is located in the city center. The bank was built by order of A.K. Alchevsky - an industrialist and entrepreneur, as well as an educator and philanthropist. It was he who founded the Land Bank with an authorized capital of one million rubles. The bank was built in 1894-1897. To study the experience of building banks in Europe, the author of his project is A.N. Beketov - went abroad, where he carefully examined similar structures in Germany, Austria-Hungary, France and Italy. A.N. Beketov got acquainted in detail with the specifics of the functional organization of the largest bank buildings: with the arrangement and location of operating rooms, work rooms, safes for storing valuables.
The architect completed the projects of the banks, taking into account the advanced requirements for the design of banking facilities of the time. After the 1917 revolution, the building changed its purpose several times. When Kharkov was the capital of Ukraine, it was transferred to the Southern Council of National Economy (Yuzhsovnarkhoz). After its disbandment in 1932, it was adapted for the needs of the city executive committee during the reconstruction of the building at 7 Constitution Street, and after its completion in 1937, the Military Economic Academy was located here. Now the building houses the Kharkov Motor Transport College. During the Second World War, the building was badly damaged. In 1953, its reconstruction was completed by architects G. Sikharulidze and A. Leibfreid.
