The monument is located near the metro station "Architect Beketov". The sculpture is located between the taxi stop 89e "Hirschman Street" and "Area Poetry." To the monument can also be reached from the Pushkinskaya metro station and Plaza de la Constitucion, which are a 10-15 minute walk.

The idea of the monument arose during the meeting of the governor of the city with students of the architectural specialty. In a dialogue with students, Yevgeny Kushnaryov found out that they would be interested in the contest of projects of the monument of lovers.

This project was conceived as a way to demonstrate the professionalism of Kharkov student architects. In addition, according to students, this particular monument would attract a large number of tourists and honeymooners and bring diversity to the life of the city.The best project was the idea of Dmitry Ivanchenko - a monument in the form of two figures reaching for each other to merge in a kiss. The opening of the monument took place on September 1, 2002, where young people, students and all the lovers of the city were invited. At first it was located on Freedom Square, later moved to the Architects Square on Pushkinskaya Street, since this square had a better ratio to the size of the monument. The official reason was that the square near the metro Architect Beketov is the most popular meeting place for lovers in the city, although, in fact, the Shevchenko Garden is largely competing with this place. The reopening of the monument took place in the spring of 2003. A few years ago, a backlight was installed at the monument, which in the evening illuminates the monument with rainbow colors.
