This is why the name "University Hill" appeared in the 19th century.

  • On the even side of the Pokrovsky Monastery was a building of the XVIII century in the Ukrainian Baroque style, which housed the Kharkiv Collegium - the first higher education institution in the Left Bank of Ukraine. The collegiate building was demolished in the 1890s.
  • From Soborny Uzviz to Soborny Lane on University Square in front of the Assumption Cathedral there is a square with a monument to the "Heroes who laid down their heads for the independence and freedom of Ukraine." Eternal fire burns in front of the monument.
  • In 1924, the antenna of the first Ukrainian radio station was installed at the Alexander Bell Tower. The day of the first broadcast of the radio station - November 16 - became a professional holiday for radio and communication workers.
  • The specific acoustics of the Assumption Cathedral enrich the sound of the organ and create a wonderful atmosphere for performing classical music. On June 1, 1986, the House of Organ and Chamber Music opened in the cathedral.
