Former Versailles Hotel

Description

  • The hotel is built in an eclectic style, with classicism and baroque in the building.

It was built by the project of the local Yelisavetgrad architect Andrei Dostoevsky. From the time of its birth, and until 1917, the building was changing its three-dimensional structure due to the completion.

Andriy Dostoyevsky designed the hotel building primarily as a residential building for the Sokolov-Borodkin family, who held senior positions in Yelisavetgrad, facilitated the development of culture and education. And at the end of the 19th century, this building became a theater hotel and was called "Versailles".

HISTORY

  • The house was created by architect Andrey Dostoyevsky for a family known in Yelisavetgrad Sokolov-Borodkin.

Sergei Sokolov-Borodkin, who lived here, became a candidate of physical and mathematical sciences already in his 25 years. In 1883, he became, like his father Cyril, county, and after some time provincial vowel. The son also replaced his father as a board member of the Elisavetgrad Zemsky Real School. Junior Sokolov-Borodkin also became a trustee of the Reading and Literature Library at the Literacy and Crafts Society. The society was the center of development and promotion of Ukrainian culture.

Thus, in the spring of 1896 a literary and musical evening with the participation of Karpenko-Kary was held in the city, Sergey Kirilovich became the manager of the event.
At the end of the nineteenth century, the house became a theater hotel and was called "Versailles".
After 1919, the building was used to house non-governmental organizations and later as an educational institution.
At present, the Art Faculty of the Central Ukrainian State Pedagogical University named after I.K. Volodymyr Vinnychenko.
