Mansion of Barsky

Description

  • The mansion was built in 1885 - 1905 at the expense of the local merchant Abram Barsky, designed by architect Alexander Lyshnevsky. The overall style of the building is modern, but there are also elements of eclecticism. The interior was extremely sophisticated and decorated in Baroque style.

The facade of the house above is decorated with mascarons that reflect the symbols of day and night. They are between curved like shoots of plants, with carved windows.

Floral ornaments with elegant motifs of flowering and fading lotuses and lilies descend to the base of the plinth. Beneath the windows are bas-reliefs depicting the Bird-eating Serpent, and the middle of the ornamental compositions is depicted with owls with wings outstretched. Above the front door is a jellyfish mask - a symbol of fatum, destination, destiny.
